11 Essentials To Stay Organized in 2023

Now that the “New Year, New Me” pixie dust has settled and we are planting on our feet back on Earth as far as how much change one human can possibly make on a whim, it’s time to get down to home organization business. Amazon has amazing home organization products- my beloved staircase basket, gold clothing rack and gift card organizer are all Amazon finds, to name a few- and my all time favorite white storage bins are exclusive to The Container Store, and I would drive to the ends of the earth to buy more before using anything else!

This list of 11 Home Organization essentials covers all the must-haves that I swear by to keep our kitchen and junk drawers from total chaos, as well as the staples that I bulk buy for every closet and cabinet. But, before you scroll and shop, let me share the MOST IMPORTANT THING I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT KEEPING YOUR HOME ORGANIZED…

Are you ready for it?

Ignore the hot new things! Don’t be tempted by rose gold flocked hangers when you have 100 black and silver ones already. Don’t stray from the bin you bulk bought 2 years ago because there is a new design that looks more interesting. The more you stick to the same, the easier it will be to adjust your organization plans as the needs of your family/space evolve. You can move hangers between closets and they will still all look uniform and aesthetically pleasing. You can swap bins from the laundry room to the pantry to the playroom and back again on a whim without creating an eyesore. Sure, it’s okay to look at the shiny new objects in the home organization aisle, but leave it at that- okay? Great. Now we can get to the good stuff…

No matter how many of the cord twisties or velcro wraps I try, nothing corrals our mish mash of chargers like these

Create extra desk drawers for yourself in seconds with these easy-to-install adhesive ones. Love that they are small so you can almost treat them like individual junk drawer organizer compartments, putting pens in one, scissors in another, etc.

This is great in laundry rooms where you want more hanging space to air dry clothing but don’t have a ton of room for a rack, and also a smart closet upgrade to give yourself a spot to lay out a week’s worth of outfits so you can save precious time every morning!

It is way too easy to lose gift cards- so I have these for every member of my family. I also take it up a notch and put little label stickers on the front of each card with the value written in a Sharpie- and as cards get used, we just cross out the old number and jot down the new amount left to spend!

This live on our fridge, and helps not only when it comes to grocery shopping for the week, but since everyone can see it, everyone knows what to expect when dinner time rolls around (which means less “UGH I didn’t want THAT for dinner” whining… well, sometimes.)

These, and only these. Trust me. Lightweight but sturdy, easy to clean and size options to suit every space and storage need, as far as I am concerned, these are the only storage bins that need to exist on this planet.

Perhaps my favorite home purchase of 2022, this makes the inevitable stacking of the stuff on every staircase in my house less of an eyesore. Every day or so when it starts to get full, I’ll bring the basket up with me and put all the random odds and ends back where they are meant to be in one fell swoop- yay for the smart handle that makes it easy to tote from room to room even when it is filled to the brim.

Velvet flocked hangers are the only hangers that should exist- and while the color combos have evolved significantly since I first started using these exclusively in my closets, take it from me and stick to whatever color you started with- don’t color code by closet or anything like that- you will regret it.

This is one of the most requested links every time I post a photo where this rack is in the frame- it looks amazing in every room, is smartly designed (love the hooks on the ends for accessories) and is so lightweight I can easily carry it from room to room as needed when packing for a trip or changing over seasonal closets, etc.

I own 3 of these, one lives on each floor of our house, and it is essential. I stick these labels on every white storage bin, file folder, etc.

The most aesthetically pleasing file organizer ever, this also has tons of different uses- I have one for the folders on my desk, another in a drawer to organize greeting cards and stationary, it’s even great for storing small bags/pouches or makeup palettes!
